Theorem Floral Hairwork Pin or Pendant
American. 1830s-60s gold, hair, glass The composition of this pin is typical of a watercolor thereom. The entire picture is put together with individual strands of hair laid down side by side and glued together. Then the pieces were cut to form the petals, leaves and basket. By using different color hair subtle shading occurs. This pin/pendant is engraved "To Emily Mother 1880''. Most thereoms done in this style are from the 1st half of the 19th c. It was not uncommon for family pieces to be ''regifted'' and later engraved. glass on reverse has a crack.
